Michael Barnes, Ph.D. is now owner of an ActionCOACH business coaching franchise after leaving the Cincinnati Biobank in January 2014 and Assurex Health in August 2015. Their vision is “World Abundance through Business Re-Education”. During the process of a business’s growth, the owner often loses sight of his/her original goals. Perhaps it was to make more money, have more time with family, meet a specific need in the marketplace, or provide service to the community. Mike’s role is to coach the business owner to rediscover those original dreams and passions and focus on specific strategies to realize them and grow the business all while spending less time on the business.
During his time with the Cincinnati Biobank, Michael and his team implemented Better Outcomes for Children, a project to efficiently gather consent from patients and families to allow use of residual clinical samples for research. By the time he left, about 35,000 patients had provided consent and samples had been collected from 15,000. He also designed and managed onsite and offsite biobanking facilities for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and the University of Cincinnati. Later Michael became director of Laboratory Operations for Assurex Health, a pharmacogenomics company in Mason, OH, that does SNP testing to determine the most appropriate medication for patients with ADHD, Depression, PTSD, or pain. In this position he oversaw reduction in laboratory costs of about 15% and decreased turn-around-time of 50%.
Michael takes the skills and knowledge he gained from his years in the business of biobanking and sample processing and uses that knowledge, supplemented with the systems available through ActionCOACH, to help businesses across industries succeed.
